If your dog hears the word “ride” and loses their entire mind, this one’s for you.
I’m a lifelong North Texan who’s proud to call Parker County home, and one of my favorite things about Weatherford is how much of it your dog can actually come along for. Getting your dog out — new smells, new places, a little adventure — isn’t just fun. It’s real enrichment, and a well-exercised, well-socialized dog is a calmer, happier one back at home.
So here’s a running directory of the dog parks, trails, patios, and shops where your pup is genuinely welcome right here in town. Bookmark it — I’ll keep adding to it.
🐾 The Dog Park
Patsy Hooks Dog Park at Heritage Park — 379 Jack Borden Way
The crown jewel, and a good one. Separate fenced areas for big dogs and small dogs, double-gated entries so nobody makes a break for it, and some of the best shade in the county. There’s water and a rinse station (a lifesaver after a muddy romp), waste bags, and even a little “dog library” of toys. Open daily, 6 AM–10 PM — and it connects right into the Heritage Park and Holland Lake trail system, so you can play and walk.
🌳 Parks & Trails for Leashed Walks
Weatherford’s public parks and trails welcome leashed dogs, and there are miles to explore:
- Holland Lake Park — 1419 Holland Lake Dr. Shaded trails around a peaceful pond, with swings all along the water. A local favorite.
- Weatherford Heritage Park — 317 Santa Fe Dr. Walking paths and a pretty pond, connected to the dog park.
- Friendship Park — 379 Jack Borden Way. A creekside path that links Heritage Park all the way to Holland Lake.
- Soldier Spring Park — 1011 Charles St. Quiet trails and a veterans memorial. (Watch for poison ivy off-trail.)
- Love Street Park — 309 Love St. An easy walking loop around a fountain pond.
- Town Creek Hike & Bike Trail (Bose Ikard Trailhead, 100 Ikard Ln) — About 5 miles of wide, easy concrete trail along the treeline, with plenty of deer to spot.
- Lake Mineral Wells State Trailway (Weatherford Trailhead) — A paved rail-trail made for long walks. (Day-use fee applies.)
- Quanah Hill Trail — 810 W Lake Dr. ~7 scenic miles by the lake — but it’s a shared mountain-bike trail where bikes have the right of way, so keep your dog leashed and stay alert around corners.
💧 By the Water
- The Boardwalk at Lake Weatherford (South Trailhead, 1299 W Lake Dr) — A ~1.5-mile floating boardwalk over the lake, full of wildlife. Time it for summer (the lotus usually bloom June through late summer) for the full show.
- Floating Bridge at Lake Weatherford — 2912 E Lake Dr. Another peaceful boardwalk-and-nature stroll.
- Lake Weatherford — Launch spots for kayaks and paddleboards if your dog’s the adventurous type.

🦮 A Quick Word on Dog Etiquette
Everywhere on this list stays dog-friendly because owners do their part. Keep your dog leashed where leashes are required, always pick up after them, bring water, and know your dog — a crowded patio isn’t the day to work through reactivity or leash manners.
And that’s exactly what I help with. If your dog wants to be your everywhere-buddy but isn’t quite there yet, a little training opens up all of Weatherford for the two of you. Reach out about training — let’s make your dog the good citizen who’s welcome anywhere. 🐾
